From High-Precision 5-Axis Machining to Smart Manufacturing, Hartford Showcases the Capabilities That Define the Next Generation of Metalworking

The global metalworking industry is undergoing another major structural transformation. Rising raw material and energy costs, shortages of skilled professionals, and continued uncertainty in the global economy are forcing manufacturers to address multiple challenges simultaneously—from cost and productivity to quality and workforce availability. At the same time, rapid advances in artificial intelligence, digital twins, automation, and smart connectivity are creating new opportunities for manufacturers to upgrade their operations and strengthen their competitiveness.


From September 15–19, 2026, AMB 2026, one of the world’s leading exhibitions for metalworking, will take place in Stuttgart, Germany. Covering machine tools, precision tooling, measurement technology, automation, software, and digital manufacturing, AMB will once again serve as a major international platform for the exchange of manufacturing technologies and expertise.


Hartford will exhibit the 5A-65E 5-axis machining center at Hall 10, Booth B76, demonstrating its advanced 5-axis machining capabilities for the semiconductor, aerospace, mold and die, and precision machinery industries through proven machining results.

5A-65E | Validating 5-Axis Precision with Actual Machining Data

For semiconductor equipment, aerospace structural components, and other high-end precision parts, high accuracy cannot be defined by machine specifications alone. What matters most is whether that precision can be consistently translated into the actual workpiece.


Hartford conducted a machining validation test on the 5A-65E using an AL7075 aerospace-grade aluminum semiconductor vacuum chamber. Through actual cutting operations and post-machining measurements, the test evaluated the machine’s geometric accuracy and stability when producing complex, high-precision components.


The results demonstrated that the 5A-65E achieved workpiece positional accuracy of ≤ 8 μm, perpendicularity of ≤ 4 μm, and parallelism of ≤ 15 μm. Compared with general machining accuracy reference values—±25 μm for positional accuracy, ±10 μm for perpendicularity, and ±25 μm for parallelism—the 5A-65E demonstrated superior accuracy control on the actual machined workpiece.


This capability is particularly important for components such as semiconductor vacuum chambers, which involve multiple datum surfaces, precision hole locations, and demanding geometric relationships. Machining equipment must not only provide excellent positioning accuracy but also effectively control the positional, perpendicular, and parallel relationships between different machined surfaces. Even minor geometric deviations can affect subsequent assembly, sealing performance, and the overall accuracy of the finished equipment.


The 5A-65E therefore demonstrates more than simply 5-axis motion capability. It translates machine accuracy, structural stability, and real-world machining performance into measurable results on the finished workpiece, meeting the high-precision manufacturing requirements of the semiconductor, aerospace, mold and die, and precision machinery industries.

Another critical challenge facing manufacturers today is reducing their dependence on a limited number of highly experienced technical specialists.


As skilled-labor shortages and high-mix, low-volume production increasingly become the norm, manufacturers need more than machines capable of producing a single high-precision part under ideal conditions. They need manufacturing platforms that can maintain consistent quality over extended production periods while integrating seamlessly with digitalized and automated production environments.
